The Storck Barracks is a US military base in Illesheim, Germany, 15 miles Northwest of Ansbach. They were first built by the German Luftwaffe in 1936. In 1936, the airfield went into operation as a supply, maintenance and repair facility for the Luftwaffe. It was later taken by the 101st cavalry group with almost no resistance. It was later after the Colonel Louis J Storck, the barracks were a major Army garrison over 60 years, being a key NATO post in the defense of Western Europe during the cold war.
In 2001, units from the Storck Barracks were deployed to the Middle East and other combat areas as part of the Global War on terrorism. It has around a population of about 2,000 people, majority being families of the currently deployed forces. The current Barracks serves as the Headquarters for the 11th Aviation Regiment.
